The Art Institute of Chicago – Visitor Guide
The Chicago Academy of Design was born on Dearborn Street in 1863. The 35 artists who founded intention was to run a free school with its own gallery. The Academy has received a letter in 1867 and classes began in 1868 the meeting all day at a cost of ten dollars month.
At the beginning of the Academy has been successful enough to build your own five floors. Built of stone and located on 66 West Adams Street opened new location November 22, 1870. Unfortunately, in 1871, the Great Chicago Fire destroyed the Academy building efforts and threw the financial crisis.

Today, the Art Institute is a world renowned School of Fine Arts and the Museum. Offerings include one of the world's best collections of Impressionist and Post Impressionist paintings. American classics like Grant Wood, American Gothic, here are exposed.
